India moves to conserve its rare earths, seeks halt to Japan exports

India takes steps to preserve its rare land resources by attenuating exports to Japan, which aims to secure these important minerals for domestic needs and strategic purposes. Rare earth elements are important for different high tech and green technologies,wind turbines and defense equipment. At the moment, Japan is one of the most important importers of the rare earth in India, especially from the state -Run Indian Rare Earth Limited (Irel). By limiting this export, India intends to build its own value -added processing skills and reduce the dependence on foreign technologies.
