In 1993, it was awarded the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought. By the World Press Review, The Oslobodenje editors - Gordana Knezevic & Kemal Kurspahic were named Inter-national Editors of the year 1993. Editor in chief named Mehmed Halilovic accepted the University of Missouri Honor Medal from the School of Journalism in Columbia in 1995.
