Stiff Neck … Try these Yoga Stretches for Neck Pain

If you’re experiencing a stiff neck, certain yoga practices can help alleviate tension, improve flexibility, and promote relaxation. It’s essential to approach these exercises with caution and listen to your body. If you have severe pain or a pre-existing condition, it’s advisable to consult with a healthcare professional before attempting these yoga poses. Here are some yoga practices that may be beneficial for a stiff neck:

1. Neck Stretches :

Slowly tilt your head from side to side, bringing your ear toward your shoulder. Take a few breaths to hold each side.

Gently rotate your neck in a circular motion, both clockwise and counterclockwise.

2. Seated Neck Release :

  Maintain a straight back when sitting comfortably.

Drop your right ear towards your right shoulder, feeling the stretch on the left side of your neck.

Hold for 20-30 seconds, breathing deeply.

Repeat on the other side.

3. Cat-Cow Stretch :

Place yourself on your hands and knees like you’re on a table.

Inhale, arch your back (like a cow), and lift your head and tailbone.

Exhale, round your back (like a cat), and tuck your chin to your chest.

Repeat for several breaths, moving between the two positions.

4. Child’s Pose :

Spread your knees apart and place your big toes on the mat.

Sit back on your heels and extend your arms forward, lowering your chest towards the mat.

Breathe deeply while placing your forehead on the ground.

5. Thread the Needle Pose :

Start in a tabletop position.

Slide your right arm under your left arm, lowering your shoulder and cheek to the mat.

Hold for 20-30 seconds, feeling a stretch in the upper back and neck.

Repeat on the other side.

6. Shoulder Rolls :

Sit or stand comfortably.

Breathe in as you raise your shoulders to your ears; release as you lower and then raise them again.

Repeat for several rounds, then switch directions.

7. Gentle Neck Tilts :

Sit or stand with a straight spine.

Bring your ear closer to your shoulder by tilting your head to one side.

Hold for a few breaths, feeling the stretch along the side of your neck.

Repeat on the other side.

8. Corpse Pose (Savasana) :

With your arms by your sides and your legs outstretched, lie on your back.

Close your eyes and focus on deep, slow breaths.

Give your body permission to fully unwind.

Remember to move slowly and mindfully, and avoid any movements that cause pain or discomfort. If your neck stiffness persists or worsens, it’s crucial to consult with a healthcare professional for personalized advice and treatment.
