More about High County News newspaper : When High Country News got back on its economic base, Bell and his family stressed the paper too much. In 1974, Bruce Hamilton, a 23-year-old, and Joan Nice Hamilton, a 24-year-old, were the writers of the paper. They held the flame alive, covering problems as diverse as the growth of ski resorts in the Colorado, plight of Yellowstone grizzle and opportunities to use solar power widely in the Western world. The High Country News experienced another economic emergency in the end of the 1970s, when one employee died of a disastrous automotive accident and three others were wounded. Again, however, dedicated readers gave $32,000 to maintain it.
