Shaw Jr., to begin new publication, formed the Cherokee County Herald. Until 1950, Joseph Sr. served as The Herald's editor. Joe Jr.'s entry was at about a half block from where his dad set up the company at the present place on 107 West First Avenue. The Cherokee Milling block, used for storage of grain, was bought by Joe Jr.
