More about Sunday Independent newspaper: At the 2004 British Press Awards, the daily edition was named National Newspaper of the Year. In June 2015 it was on an average less than 58 000 per day, down 85% from its peak in 1990, while the Sunday edition was just over 97 000. Lunched in 1986, the Independent first issue was released on the 7th of October in a large-scale format and created by Andreas Whittam Smith, Stephen Glover and Matthew Symonds. It was released by Newspaper Publishing plc. All three of them were former daily telegraph reporters who left the paper at Lord Hartwell's end.
