We need water for survival. We cannot sustain life without water. Approximately 60 percent of the human body is with water. Our metabolism needs water to function properly. That is why we keep hearing that drinking water is good for health. Doctors and health experts often suggest the same. What do you think about drinking too much water? … It is true that we should also check how much water we are drinking. Now let’s find out what health problems are caused by excessive and frequent drinking.

Drinking an excessive amount of water in a short period of time, known as “binge water drinking” or “water intoxication,” can lead to several health problems, including:


1. Hyponatremia: When you drink too much water, it can dilute the electrolytes in your body, especially sodium. This condition is called hyponatremia and can cause symptoms like nausea, vomiting, headaches, seizures, and even coma.


2. Encephalitis: If the sodium levels in your blood drop too low, it can cause the brain to swell, leading to confusion, seizures, and even death.


3. Water poisoning: Drinking too much water in a short period can cause water poisoning, which can be fatal. Symptoms of water poisoning include headache, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, frequent urination, and in severe cases, seizures, coma, and even death.


4. Electrolyte imbalance: Binge water drinking can lead to an electrolyte imbalance in the body, which can cause muscle cramps, weakness, and irregular heartbeats.

How much water to drink?

Drinking 3 to 4 liters of water per day is healthy. Some people need more water depending on their body composition. Depending on the season, you have to drink water. You can drink about 200 ml every hour during the day time.

When to drink?

Drink 2 to 3 glasses of water with an empty stomach in the morning after waking up. This reduces gastric and indigestion problems. The impurities in the intestines are cleaned. Constipation problem is reduced. Water consumption at mealtimes is not recommended. This dilutes the gastric juice needed to digest food, leading to indigestion and gastric problems. You can drink water up to one hour before meals, but only one hour after meals. And when it comes to night, drinking a glass of water before going to bed at night is good for health.

How to drink?

How to consume water has been suggested by experts. These are: Never drink water while standing; it is preferable to sit down and sip it gradually. Saliva and this water are consumed together to appropriately carry out the digestive process. Too much water should not be consumed all at once or frequently. We have already encountered the issues brought on by this.

Finally … It’s essential to drink enough water to stay hydrated, but it’s also crucial to drink in moderation and avoid binge water drinking. If you experience any symptoms after drinking a large amount of water, seek medical attention immediately.
