Maida is known as All-purpose flour or Cake flour or Plain flour or White flour. We all know about dishes prepared from Maida and most of them are very tasty and delicious. Cakes, Breads, Buns, Pastries, Noodles, Pizzas, Burgers, Biscuits, Sweets and more foods are made with this all-purpose maida flour.

How is Maida / All-purpose flour prepared?

Highly refined wheat flour is called maida. The wheat grain is refined to make the flour soft and white in appearance with chemical bleach by using bleach agents such Benzoyl peroxide, calcium peroxide, chlorine gas, NO2, chlorine dioxide, and Azodicarbonamide, or naturally with air oxygen. These are very hazardous to human health. Peroxide is a solvent used for cleaning wounds, is used in bleaching to make the flour white in color. Benzoyl peroxide is a chemical found in acne creams.

Hence Maida is available at low cost, and is now commonly used in all bakery and hotel sectors. Consumption of maida is not healthy as it has a high glycemic index (GI) and no potential health benefits.

Adverse effects on human health

In order for the food we eat to be digested, it must have some fiber. As Maida flour is sticky in nature and has no fiber content, it shows a negative impact on digestive health. The undigested food particles stick to our intestines and produce bacteria in the intestines. They can cause infections, ulcers and gastric problems. Due to high carbohydrates, regular or excessive use of maida flour can cause obesity, diabetes, constipation, heart diseases and other health issues.

Especially pregnant women and children are more threatened by the chemicals used in preparation of the flour. 

Particularly because of the trend of consuming flour-based bakery products like cakes, pizzas, and burgers, children have issues like obesity and PCOS from an early age in girls.

Maida has a high glycemic index (GI) and Glucose is immediately absorbed into the blood after eating foods with a high GI. The pancreas produces insulin to counter this. The excessive consumption of maida products for a long time, the production of insulin gradually decreases, causes type 2 diabetes. Because of the widespread use of this flour, extra fat causes issues including obesity and cardiac difficulties. In order to preserve health, it is ultimately necessary to cut back on the consumption of this dangerous flour.
