Christopher was founded by Christopher Hildreth & Edward Bachman locally in the early 1970s and was initially known as the San Francisco Music Calendar, Magazine or Poster Art. The main characteristic was the central listing of calendars of local art occurrences. The paper was supported by SF Weekly Awards (Music Awards) , known as "Wammies." The prize was awarded to the news agency Village Voice Media (then New Times Media) in 1995.
